Vacation part 2

After a brief respite at home on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, we were back on the road for the second part of our family vacation week. Our destination...Timberline Cabins near Salt Fork State Park with the Cox family.

The kids enjoyed swimming at the beach, pontoon rides and fishing (although the fish weren't biting at all...which lead to some seriously frustrated/bored kids...nothing like the easy catching they enjoyed in Michigan). In the afternoon, Bailey went with Aunt Amanda, Grandma and cousins Abby and Phillip to a Queens Parade at the Ohio Hills Folk Festival. While she was away, Brandon and Mom enjoyed an afternoon of tubing on cousin Jeff's boat while Mike went fishing with Jon and Alyce. It was the first time tubing for both of us and we had a ball. We both got thrown off a couple times, but we both stayed on a lot longer than I had expected ;o)

On Saturday evening, we celebrated Dad's 65th and Brandon's 8th birthday with a cookout at the cabin. Amanda brought ribs from the Dancing Donkey (yes, it is actually a restaurant ;o) and we had Dairy Queen ice cream cake and Mom's famous homemade raspberry pie (my favorite!) Of course, the evening wouldn't be complete without a dip in the hot tub...

On Sunday, we went to church with our Grandpa (it was a surprise in honor of his 90th birthday). Grandma said that as he saw more and more of his family coming into church that his eyes started to tear up. The normal attendance was probably 10 people, but this Sunday saw nearly 50 people there. A few hours later, we surprised him again with a family party, complete with a cake adorned with 90 candles (including one trick candle that wouldn't stay extinguished). At the end of the day, Mike was on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Atlanta and I was headed home with the kids...thus was the end of a very fun family vacation.
