What a difference a weekend makes

Mike finally returned home around 11 p.m. on Friday. I can't tell you what a difference it's made since he was home for the weekend. For me it was a tremendous emotional relief to be able to share parenting duties (not to mention being able to reconnect with my husband). The kids seemed to straighten up too once he got home...which was a blessing of its own.

Breakfast on Saturday was a family affair as we all helped make Abelskievers (a Danish pancake ball...it looks like a donut hole). I made the batter and Mike cooked them (the kids love telling me that Daddy makes them better than I do). Once they were done, he'd transfer them to bowls of powdered sugar and cinnamon/sugar and the kids would stir them until they were coated. It was a tasty treat and definitely started the day out right.

Mr. B had a basketball game at noon...his team was doing really well until the "subs" went in the third quarter. They squandered a 7 point lead and the team was never able to recover. Mr. B was mad with losing yet another game but I think it helped that Mike was there to calm his temper (I know his reaction would have been much more dramatic if he wasn't home...Mike seems to have a calming affect on him).

We spent the afternoon shopping around for loft bed frames for Mr. B's room. A while ago we switched his bedroom to the guest room (which had a double bed). The room is at the back of the house and farther away from the road noise. Anyway, we want to move the double bed into the new guest room, but thought the loft option would allow Mr. B more room in his room and be a good alternative for him to give up the double bed. We weren't able to find any cheap alternatives, so I think Mike might end up building one himself. I know we're expecting house guests for Shari's wedding at the end of May, so hopefully he can find the time to get it done before then ;o)
