A Brief Escape

My children have been gone for three days (spending time with Grandma and Papa).

And I've loved every minute of it.

The peacefulness. Being able to do what I want, when I want. Sleeping late. Working out at the gym for as long as I want without feeling rushed or guilty. Going on dates with my husband (yes, he's home for the week for our "staycation.")

It's all such a wonderful "departure" from my life as a mother.

And you know what, I haven't had those pangs of longing for my kids to return that other mommy bloggers write about. Perhaps that admission makes me a horrible mother. But, it's been so nice not to have that responsibility (not to mention the continual "What are we going to do?" "He's being mean to me" "It's not fair." mantra that I endure all the time.) At least for a few days.

Now before you go crucifying me, I have spoken with my children by phone each day. And they're having fun taking hikes through the woods (Miss Monkey saw three butterflies and said they were going to a butterfly party), playing golf with Papa, swimming, and so much more. It's a return to the simple life and they are loving it.

Tomorrow, I'll be returning to motherhood as usual... I'll just be a little more rested.

P.S. For those of you who are wondering, I've struggled with the weight challenge this week (what with all the dinners out with my husband) But I think things are pretty close right now in the challenge (seeing as my Daddy just returned from vacation as well).

P.S.S. The pool has not arrived as we had hoped, BUT we spent nearly 5 hours preparing a level surface for it yesterday. And yes, my arms are a little sore from all the shoveling and tamping.

I'm so glad you are enjoying yourself without the children around! You know they're having a blast, and you know they are well taken care of! I wish I did not have such a case of mommy guilt every time I left my children, even for one night! Things would be much more enjoyable! :)

I would NEVER crucify you for saying that....I would HIGH-FIVE YOU!!!!!
We are smack in the middle of summer vacation and I am dying for a break from the constant fighting, the constant meal and snack preparations, and the constant activity planning. So like I said, HIGH-FIVE!!!!!!! :)

Who wouldn't love a kid break? Sometimes, I wonder how I'm going to make it through the summer.

Plus, the break makes you a better mommy and your kids are happier, too!

I don't miss my kids when they're gone either. Maybe that means we're well-adjusted. :)
