Inching Closer

It's been nearly two weeks since I've publicly admitted the error of my lazy ways and vowed to commit to myself (or more specifically to focus on losing my unwanted muffin top.)

I headed into my first week with gusto thanks to the support of all of you (and a weight loss challenge posed to me by my Daddy.) So I stepped on the scale, whipped out the measuring tape (not something I've done in ages) and established my starting point. (If I were braver, I'd share those numbers...but for now, we'll just leave that up to your imagination.)

The next order of business was to clean up my diet. I had become accustomed to quick, convenience, processed food (I had stupidly convinced myself that I was entitled..after all, I am a "single" working mom during the week and it was so easy to just grab something on the way home or pop something quickly into the microwave...yes, I know it was LAZY. And so not good for me or the kids.) Late night snacking had to go too. And so did my favorite mochas. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but there's something about the combination of espresso, chocolate and milk. A caffeinated heaven. But this to had to go (at least for a while.)

I also had to find a way to fit exercise into my schedule. A few years ago, when I joined my local gym, it was easy. I'd take Mr. B and Miss Monkey to the kids room and take a weight lifting, step or spin class. But now, since my children have decided to grow up, they no longer want to sit in the "little kids" room (go figure.) I signed them up for their own memberships, but quickly realized that I wasn't able to get in any type of workout when I had to monitor them (splitting my time EVENLY between them both... yes mothering doesn't even take a break at the gym.) And that's when my attendance at the gym started to wane...and it's been a struggle ever since.

So with this new found focus, I've been sneaking in workouts during my lunch hour. And making time for workouts on the weekend. I've only missed a few days in the first two weeks.

Of course there have been temptations and I'll admit I haven't been able to pass them all up. But I was able to enjoy a weekend of camping without gaining an ounce. And I managed to go to a Mexican restaurant (one of my favorites) and just ordered a bowl of soup.

So far, I'm down 3 pounds and have lost 5.25 inches overall. And I'm proud to say that people are noticing (especially my husband.)

P.S. As of a few days ago, my Daddy was down 4 pounds. And the winner will either take the loser out for dinner or throw a cool whip pie in the other's face ;o)

Congrats! That is awesome.

And, I don't think the winner should be declared by pounds...that's not fair. It should be percent loss!
